Viktória Šinkorová is Dublin based composer, classical guitarist, free-improviser and early-career researcher from Slovakia who collaborates extensively with other musicians, dancers, light designers and filmmakers. In her interdisciplinary collaborations Viktória is keen on establishing cohesive frameworks for all participants encouraging them to engage in a collective exploration of dynamics around authorship with an emphasis on mutual contributions that foster interdisciplinary environments conducive to co-creation. Her curiosity in literacy, oral traditions and language have led her to explore the relationships between text and composition. She leans heavily on theory surrounding authorship and intertextuality, which has led her to explore more expansive interpretations of the established understanding of symbols and signs. Viktória’s research exemplifies her interest in the complexities of notating composed and improvised music within a single format, which she terms interweaves.

Viktória has performed in venues and festivals including St Pancras Church (London), the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Music (Tallinn), Improtest (Tallinn), müriaadFEST (Tallin), Estonia Kontserdisaal (Tallinn), Den elektroakustiska konsertserien (Stockholm), Hagalunds vattenton (Stockholm) and The Art Of Improvisation concert series (Hamburg). She has held a residency at the Copper Leg Art Residency in Estonia. She has performed with Nick Roth, Benjamin Dwyer, Charlotte Hug, Vlatko Kučan, Heliä Mailiis Viirakivi, Olesya Zdorovetska, Jenn Kirby, Kristjan Kannukene and others.

In addition to her creative work, Viktória was head administrator of New Pathways in Improvisation@MDX, and is currently  working as program & artist manager for the Viva Musica! Festival, which is the biggest international summer festival of classical music in Slovakia.

Viktória obtained her Batchelor’s degree in Performance and Composition from Middlesex University, London (MDX), and she is the recipient of the University’s Turton Prize for outstanding academic achievement. She took part in the Irish Compositional Summer School guest directed by Ed Bennett and Ann-Marie O’Farrell. Viktória studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm where she completed the European Master’s Degree in Contemporary Performance and Composition ‘CoPeCo’. She is currently pursuing a PhD in composition at the University College Dublin.
